First of all, I must say thanks to the AIU team for developing and expediting this somewhat innovative, yet strategically relevant and globally effective mode of pedagogy which not only makes full use of the latest developments in information technology but effectively allowed for knowledge creation and learning within the ambit of my personal sphere of existence.
I graduated from a traditional university with a BSc(Hons) degree (Chemistry and Applied Biochemistry) and a Masters degree in Biotechnology and then proceeded to Ph.D. studies in Chemistry but given my family and work obligations I had to abort the program as it was more structured for someone who is not only single but otherwise unemployed.
I then began scouting the internet for a University that would be more amenable to my situation which resulted in my decision to attend AIU.
The structure of the AIU program was ideal for me given my family obligations and my quite demanding job as Chemist in the Caribbean’s largest alumina refinery. My work environment which employs the use of several cutting-edge analytical instrumentation provided an ideal scenario for localized research and optimization studies that were not only of immediate relevance to my industry but ideal for meeting the requirements of advanced university study.
The design of my curriculum was another exciting feature of the program as my coursework was strategically formulated to cater specifically to my professional needs as different from the generic type curricula typical of many institutions of higher learning.
I must also mention the feedback from my advisor during my program which was consistent and timely assisted prodigiously in helping to keep me motivated and the quite apt and informative communications sent by student services from time to time kept me up to date with latest developments of global significance.
In closing I would like to add my personal endorsement to the cogency of the AIU program of studies and its potential to be a vanguard for learning in the 21st century and beyond.
