FIN 402 Advanced Finance (3 Credits)
This is a unit in financial modeling, with particular emphasis on capital investment decisions. Specific topics that arise include capital budgeting under uncertainty (including simulation), recognition and valuation of real options in capital budgeting, CAPM and portfolio theory based approaches to capital budgeting, analytical linkages between DCF and accruals (accounting) based income streams (relevant to corporate valuation exercises), risk analysis of investment proposals, and the effects of leverage on IRR ('negative gearing').
Relevant theory is explained mainly in the context of application to mini-case problems.
At a practical level the unit introduces students to the use of spreadsheet software in financial modeling and analysis of capital investment risk.
