MY EXPERIENCE WITH AIU
I started with Atlantic
International University in October 2009. I have found the experience with AIU
challenging, motivating and generally uplifting.
It has been challenging in the
sense that the self-teaching style of education have meant that my reading has
not been selective as would ordinarily be when lectures are being presented. I
have had to read whole books at times to come up with the assignments for
submission on particular modules. Being a type who mostly grasps better from
what is being presented by lecturers; I found this to be a bit of a challenge.
Nonetheless, it gave me the advantage of all round knowledge of the topics I
tackled.
The other challenge has been
personal and in the area of finances. There was a time when I could not afford
to pay the monthly fees. I was temporarily out of employment and was not sure if
I was going to take the school program again. This is where I appreciate the
flexibility in the AIU program. As soon as I was able to pay again, I was
readmitted and here we are. I only wish the AIU would structure its payment
terms and conditions of payment so that those who wish may pay in advance for
the 20 months. This would enable many to be active academically even when they
can no longer be active financially.
The experience was motivating in
that resources for undertaking researching are available. I was only limited by
my access to the internet.
Timely communications from both
the academic and finance department motivated me to go on even though the
pressures of life (work and family) at times demanded that I rest.
I am generally uplifted to have
obtained the Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. Personally, my
children will benefit from the spirit towards which AIU has played no small
part. Economically, I am hoping the Degree will put me in a position to get a
raise in responsibility and station at work.
