Nigeria faces significant healthcare access challenges exacerbated by economic instability and limited health insurance coverage. The existing insurance schemes are hindered by high costs, insufficient awareness, and a lack of transparency, leading to underutilization and poor health outcomes. Additionally, a significant information gap about health risks and insurance benefits deters citizens from enrolling. To address these issues, comprehensive health education campaigns are essential to increase awareness about insurance benefits and encourage participation. Policy adjustments aimed at affordable premiums and better resource pooling can also enhance coverage and quality of care. Strengthening insurance schemes and health education will promote equitable access, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, and ultimately improve the nation’s health indicators.
