FAQs

What is Industrial Microbiology?

The primary purpose of Industrial Microbiology is to make use of living microorganisms to develop useful products. Examples include antibiotics, enzymes, vaccines, biofuels and fermented foods. This discipline combines both the sciences of Microbiology and Biotechnology along with industrial procedures to best achieve microbial production efficiencies and optimize the production of commercial and environmentally sound products.

Is Industrial Microbiology a good career?

Yes, Industrial Microbiology is definitely a  lucrative career.

Difference between Microbiology and Industrial Microbiology

Microbiology is a science that studies microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.), whereas Industrial Microbiology uses this knowledge in order to grow and produce things (antibiotic substances, enzymes, etc.) in large quantities.

Microbiology is an overall conceptual study of the way these organisms live and interact with their environment.

Industrial Microbiology applies all of these ideas to produce useful products, and as such, it is more about the commercial marketplace rather than scientific investigation.

Can I study Industrial Microbiology online?

Yes, AIU offers an Industrial Microbiology degree online.

Let us know your goals and aspirations so we can chart a path at AIU to achieve them!
