Atlantic International University’s Doctor of Mining Engineering program includes comprehensive core courses and advanced topics in modern mining system expertise and resource management. Major areas of study include (but aren’t limited to) mine planning/design; rock mechanics; mineral processing; ventilation engineering; drilling/blasting technology; surface/underground methods; geostatistics; and mineral resource estimation. Research Projects : Doctor of Mining Engineering

In the program, students engage with Research Projects as a key aspect of the learning experience, using solidifying concepts learned in class to handle actual challenges faced by those employed in the same field as the student. Students are assigned to do guided research exploring unique topics; will analyze recent trends happening in the field; and provide other innovative options for those experiencing the issues related to the topic being researched. Some examples of job types that would be available include: Mining Engineer, Mine Planning Engineer, Mineral Processing Specialist, Geotechnical Engineer, Environmental Mining Consultant, Safety & Risk Management Specialist, Mining Operations Manager, and Resource Development Consultant.

Doctor of Mining Engineering Admission Requirements

The way you can get accepted into this program is very broad and open and includes anyone who is willing to study and have various post-secondary educational backgrounds and work experiences looking for opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge in the mining industry and the related fields surrounding it. Most of the time, applicants will have a prior educational degree from a credible institution, as well as a high interest in mining, mineral resource/engineering type work, or another similar field of study. In the process of accepting an application, the applicant will most likely have to submit such items as school transcripts, resume/curriculum vitae, and a statement explaining their educational, career goals and/or purpose for entering this program. 

In addition, if the applicant has a significant amount of time spent doing work in mining, geology, engineering, or some form of industrial activity, this will help strengthen their application. The program uses an evaluative approach that is supportive to the applicant’s ability to pursue independent research and thinking, as well as assist with some aspect to help move forward with a career based on developing sustainable mining practices.

This program was created to be straightforward, easy to apply to and will benefit many diverse communities of student (both in terms of professional and educational background). There is an online form that you must fill out with general personal information and general academic information before being reviewed by the admissions staff. At that point, if they would like more information on you and/or your abilities they will ask for additional documentation such as transcripts, resume and/or CV and an educational/career goal statement. After reviewing all of this information the admissions team will provide assistance to the eligible candidates who have been accepted into the program by assigning them an academic advisor that will assist the candidate in creating an individualized study plan and help with the enrollment process.

Financial Support & Scholarships

AIU is committed to making a quality education accessible and affordable through a variety of financial aid and scholarship options. To help students better manage their tuition expenses, AIU provides an array of flexible tuition payment options, including many different forms of scholarships to qualified students. There are several different forms of scholarships available to students based on academic achievement, career accomplishments or service to the community; or on the basis of demonstrated need. The majority of students will qualify for partial scholarships that can significantly lower their cost of attendance and provide additional payment options over time while they pursue their degree programs. AIU’s unique approach will provide many students, including those who are currently employed, those who are living outside the United States, or those who have other barriers, with the opportunity to obtain an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree without financial barriers.
