Atlantic International University’s (AIU) masters in land surveying will help provide professionals with the ability to develop an advanced understanding of geospatial measurements, land visualization, and spatial data analysis. Students may attend the program on a flexible distance education basis. The program is based on AIU’s andragogical approach to adult learning and allows for the customization of academic programs for adult students based on individual student’s interest and future career paths. The online graduate degree in land surveying offered by Atlantic International University consists of a variety of curricula that nurture an extensive range of theoretical knowledge and practical application in the fields of land management and geospatial science. 

Areas studied as part of the curriculum could include geodesy, geographic information systems, remote sensing, photogrammetry, cartography, advanced techniques in land measurement, satellite positioning systems, and spatial data analysis; additional areas of study would consist of land administration and governance, environmental mapping, urban and regional planning, construction surveying, and digital mapping technologies. What are the Research Projects for Masters in Land Surveying ?

Students who complete Atlantic International University’s Master of Science (MSc) in Land Surveying will have the opportunity to independently conduct research related to geospatial and land management challenges. Among other things, they will be able to conduct research into many areas, including various types of advanced surveying instruments/technologies, GIS (Geographic Information Systems)-based land analysis, satellite positioning systems, environmental mapping, urban land management/planning, and cadaster systems. 

Students will work one-on-one with academic supervisors on all aspects of developing, collecting, analyzing and presenting their findings using spatial data and/or research methodologies in land surveying. Developing independent research skills will increase students’ ability to think critically, creatively generate solutions to real-world problems as they relate to their area of interest in land surveying, and ultimately reach their career goals.

Thesis Defense

The Master of Science in Land Surveying program at Atlantic International University offers an option for students to transfer their previously earned graduate level research or thesis credits into the program from an accredited institution. This provides an opportunity for a student to receive credit for their prior experience as well as be a part of an alternative means of achieving an academic degree in land surveying.

Upon transfer, the student’s thesis or research paper must be approved by an AIU academic advisor in relation to the core subject matters of land surveying/geospatial science and be evaluated based on the quality and relevance to land surveying/geospatial science. This transfer option allows the student to continue building on their prior research experience, while also continuing to expand their professional knowledge and expertise in land surveying/spatial technology.

Students are able to engage in independent, interdisciplinary research addressing real-world problems within their disciplines of study, and produce a variety of work based on their research and development efforts which may be submitted as (for example) masters in geomatics engineering research papers, case studies, and/or technical reports to refereed journals or conferences and professional associations with faculty mentors.
