Experience at AIU
The Atlantic International University has provided me as a professional teacher an experience of dedication, commitment and self evaluation. To complete the Degree programme through a long distance based university has been challenging and a process of growth.
The challenge to meet deadlines each month was the most testing of all, as I had to juggle my work, family and reading very careful, this has helped me to become a better person and to cherish my time with my family when I was not reading or writing reports.
One aspect of AIU I found thought provoking was the optional essay’s that were sent to me and I read many a paper that inspired me in my work, especially the one about communication and how all human communication fails. This had an impact on my teaching and my listening – I did not write a report on it, as I did about Human Rights but it did entice me to change some of my methodology in teaching. I sincerely hope I can continue to receive these fascinating papers through email as an Alumni of AIU.
AIU sets a high standard and it made me look at my involvement with my community and how I can help in various ways, to this end I have become involved in community programmes and set myself new challenges academically.
AIU mission statement for me clearly stated what I expected of myself by following there degree programme, I have learnt to become far more culturally aware of my surroundings and to be far more honest and respectful of the students I teach and the colleagues I work with. AIU promotes human evolution and with this I have understood the importance of being culturally aware especially as a foreigner in Zambia.
