During my sophomore time at Atlantic International University, I experienced lots of opportunities for Marketing career.
After much thought and discussions with my family and friends, I decided that studying at Atlantic International University would allow me to grow as an Expert and as an individual, further developing my marketing skills and personal style.
I could channel new experiences and perceptions into my work. In addition, on a more personal level, I believed that this study experience would teach me how to become more independent and gain a greater sense of confidence and personal identity.
After some independent research and initial contacts, I decided to apply to Atlantic International University, USA. I am visually impaired and chose Atlantic International University because of its superior services for people living in Europe.
It’s All in How You Plan It
I am currently with an International clinical research organization.
I am married and have two little children.
I also established contact with other students who were planning to study or who have finished at Atlantic International University.
In general, I found the services at Atlantic International University to be vastly different from what I was used to at my home school / studies. This is primarily because my University is in USA and I am living and working in Germany.
In contrast, Atlantic International University has a strong and intricate support network for all students. Support includes the combination of student helpers, helpers from the community, contact between the university, and special equipment on AIU campus.
The Office for Students at AIU arranged a professional package for a successful start.
The Art of Academics
Probably the most difficult cultural and academic adjustments for me were doing studies in my house, living together with my family and all the house activities.
I quickly learned that being a student at AIU I have to change some objectives like timing and better internal coordination.
AIU students are required to do a tremendous amount of self-guided research in books and online in the library and the field. The Tutor may recommend certain books to study, but students are expected to go beyond a Tutor’s suggestions with their own independent research. Therefore, I spent a great deal of time in studying books & library, researching internet.
It was hard to do all of this in my house with the family around me, and so I was forced to orient myself to the studies.
Upon Reflection
A study abroad experience provides the individual with wonderful personal, academic and career benefits. As a result of my time with AIU, I gained an impressive resume and marketing portfolio. I feel that my new experience and new knowledge developed a great deal. I learned innovative techniques in both study and research and learned how to conduct self-directed research. In addition, I became more independent in my daily work, orientation and mobility, daily living skills and ability to reach more objectives at my workplace. I gained a great deal of confidence in my abilities to adapt and succeed on my own. This gave me a greater sense of my identity, purpose and spirituality. Furthermore, I obtained a tremendous amount of insight about the marketing culture in different areas of the world and how to interact with all types of people. Finally, I made new friendships and wonderful memories to last a lifetime. My time at Atlantic International University was an experience I will treasure always.
