I am writing to provide a summary of my academic experience and
accomplishments during my Ph.D. program at Atlantic International University
(AIU), where I majored in Renewable Energy. My time at AIU has been a pivotal
period of intellectual growth and professional development, allowing me to gain
a deeper understanding of energy systems, sustainability, and innovative
solutions for addressing global energy challenges.
Throughout my doctoral journey, I have had the opportunity to explore various
aspects of renewable energy, focusing on critical areas such as energy generation,
storage, distribution, and optimization.
The interdisciplinary nature of my program provided me with a comprehensive
view of both theoretical and practical applications within the renewable energy
sector, preparing me to contribute effectively to the field. The culmination of my
Ph.D. program was my dissertation titled “Harnessing Excess Power in the
Nigerian Transmission Network for Ancillary Services and Grid Balancing.”
This research involved a detailed analysis of the inefficiencies and challenges
present in the Nigerian power grid, particularly the issue of excess power
generation and its underutilization. I examined the potential to repurpose this
excess power for ancillary services, which could support grid stability, improve
power distribution, and address the frequent issues of load shedding and grid
instability.
My research methodology combined quantitative analysis with field data from
the Nigerian power sector. I proposed strategies for improving grid performance
by integrating renewable energy sources into the existing network, thus
optimizing power flow and contributing to sustainable energy development.
Through this work, I gained hands-on experience in grid management techniques,
power systems analysis, and renewable energy integration.
As an online student at AIU, I developed strong self-discipline, time management
skills, and the ability to conduct independent research. Despite the challenges
posed by remote learning, I benefited from AIU’s supportive academic
environment, which allowed me to interact with fellow students and faculty
members across the globe. The flexibility of the program enabled me to balance
my studies with my professional and personal commitments while providing
access to a wealth of resources and guidance throughout the research process.
In conclusion, my doctoral experience at AIU has been both challenging and
rewarding. It has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary to address
the pressing energy issues of our time, particularly in the context of renewable
energy development and grid modernization in developing countries like Nigeria.
I am eager to apply the insights gained from my research to contribute to the
advancement of renewable energy solutions and sustainable power systems
globally.
Thank you for considering my doctoral experience as part of my graduation
requirements. Please feel free to reach out if further details or clarification are
needed.
Sincerely,
Heather Ciweku Onoh
