Dear Sirs,It was with much trepidation that I commenced this journey toward the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Communication Studies at the Atlantic International University in 2009. I was hesitant to begin as I was aware that with my workload as a Lecturer in the Department of Media and Communication at the University of the West Indies, I did not have much time left in the work day to sit in lectures and complete assignments as I pursued my own academic development.AIU’s approach to teaching and learning provided me with the perfect opportunity to realize my goals. Almost three years after embarking on that journey, I can look back with much joy and say unhesitatingly that with the support of a very accommodating and understanding faculty and staff, I have successfully completed what appeared atfirst to have been an almost impossible task.AIU’s approach to teaching was refreshing. The onus was placed on my ability to direct my own study and this approach enriched the programme that much more, as the body of research that had to be undertaken can only inform my academic pursuits in the future. It has been a successful and enlightening journey and one that I would not trade for another. I feel much better positioned as an academic and more confident in my abilities to deliver at the tertiary level.Thank you AIU for helping me to achieve this milestone.Sincerely,Corinne Barne
