MY EXPERIENCE WITH ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
My personal experience with AIU has been very interesting, educative, experiential and fulfilling.
I always wanted to further my academic education to degree level but could not do so because the conditions of study in the local universities and elsewhere are that you are required to attend residential classes from time to time. This has been difficult for me because the residential classes are arranged at times that coincide with work. This deprives the essential workers like me that cannot leave work to attend classes.
Due to the urge in me to do some studies, I enrolled with the local university to study Human Resource Management. This was the only course available on distance learning that I could do relating to my line of work.I found it quite challenging to attend all residential classes, as I am required to be at work too.
In my search for a suitable University that would meet my needs, I discovered AIU.
AIU offer tailor made courses that relate to what is obtaining in your field of work and the world around us. All assignments are done on-line and one is allowed to determine the pace of study according to the prevailing personal conditions. I found AIU to be a dream-come true.
Studying with AIU has widened my scope of understanding things since the curriculum is designed to relate to one’s personal needs and the current happenings around the world. It contrasts with traditional courses offered by other universities in that the curriculum is already set for you.AIU has advisors and tutors that work with you to help you realize your own dream. The curriculum is designed to suit personal needs and relevance to the community we leave in. The compulsory courses designed by AIU such as; Development of College Education, Seminar in Cultural Development, Seminar in Administrative Development, Seminar in International Development, help you to understand the social, economic, educational, organisational, political, and technological trends and the resulting impact. The study of the core books; The Hidden Connections, In Defence of Globalisation, What the Bleep Do We Know and How to Change the World have opened my mind and changed my way of thinking. These books are objective, scientific and very practical. After reading these books and used them to do my assignments, I have developed a sense of self-drive and self-development.Right now, I am working on the formation on my own business.I am also arranging to publish a book in ‘Career Guidance’ that will be used in secondary schools. My main objective is to make a positive impact in the society I live and in my job.My employer noticed the change in me and the knowledge gained as result of the studies with AIU and appointed me as Head of Humanities Department in my school.
Recently, I read in our national paper “The Post News Paper” where the Minister of Education Dr. John Phiri commented on the College education in Zambia. He said, I quote, “It is common knowledge that the present curricula and the way they are implemented tends to promote rote learning”.He continued to say, “The education provided has little obvious relevance to the needs of the community or the learner.Sadly, the goal for the learners and their teachers is not an educational or professional competence but merely passing the examination”.This comment is true with most learning institutions. It is the opposite with AIU.During my studies with AIU, I discovered that there is genuine learning, creativity, and imagination.Education at AIU is a necessity and relevant to ones well-being.
As s result of discovering what I have always been looking for, I was so motivated in my studies to an extent of completing my Bachelors Degree in Education in less than the recommended period of 20 months.I am encouraged to pursue further studies after my graduation.
I would like to recommend all full time workers and all those who would like to attain qualifications that would add value in their life and the society to think of Atlantic International University.
