Courses of study – Your course of study is created using andragogy principles and, therefore, is student-directed, opening up opportunities for you to design a program reflecting your interests and goals within the program by choosing topics and areas of study that will allow you to better understand your pressing issues. General education content will come from areas such as philosophy, history, culture, ethics, literature, sociology, and global studies. In addition to general education courses, you will also take courses in critical thinking, research methods, communication studies and comparative civilizations. This program promotes the use of reflective learning, analytical writing and real-world experience, all of which will help you develop an understanding of the shared human experience within and across diverse groups, cultures and places.

Orientation Courses : Master of Humanities

This Master of Humanities orientation course at AIU provides an overview of the University’s andragogy driven, self-directed learning model and to help the student build a strong academic foundation. The majority of courses will comprise modules that include; Intro to Distance Learning, Academic Research and Writing Skills, Critical Thinking and Reflective Learning, and Information Literacy. In addition, students equivalent to Master of Digital Humanities and Technology will receive graduate degree in humanities assistance with establishing goals, developing curriculum design plans, and effectively using AIU’s ma in humanities virtual campus and master of humanities digital resources.

What are the Research Projects for Master of Humanities ?

The research projects that make up the Master of Humanities degree at AIU support students’ independent inquiry and analyses of cultural/social issues, philosophical thought, literature through historiography, and research based upon the written/journalistic records of society. Each student designs his or her own research project(s) to further interrogate these disciplines as they relate to where theory and real-world applications/contexts intersect.

Using qualitative or quantitative analytical methods, students will work closely with their faculty mentors to develop their proposals and ultimately to develop projects that illustrate originality and an appropriate depth of intellect. Consequently, students’ ability to do research and write at an advanced level will be considerably enhanced, while contributing original thought to global discussions related to the Humanities.

The AIU Master’s in Humanities program has created a unique learning environment that includes teaching a minimum of two courses daily to give students the ability to constantly have a place they can collaborate and connect to help them stay focused on moving forward with their education.

Each class will employ an asynchronous approach to teaching so that students can receive instruction on many aspects of the humanities, including cultural studies, philosophical concepts, global issues, historical events, etc. Faculty and guest lecturers lead classroom discussions – providing all students with opportunities to participate in classroom discussions (using an asynchronous format), ask questions of instructors, build relationships with one another, acquire new ideas from diverse perspectives, learn about different cultures, discuss current topics, etc. – while developing a global perspective on education and maintaining an equal balance between their virtual course work and traditional, in-person education.

The purpose of the Master of Humanities admission process at AIU is to provide higher-quality learning opportunities for all students. Most applicants will hold a baccalaureate or equivalent degree from a recognized institution; however, AIU evaluates applicants based on academic history, work experience and motivation to learn independently and will not be limited to using only standardized tests. At the time of application, applicants submit a complete admission application and all supporting documentation; the university will conduct an initial evaluation of applicants’ academic records to assist applicants in completing the literary studies application process.
