Final Thesis

This research explores the effects of tDCS applied to the DLPFC on social communication skills in children diagnosed with ASD. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including a randomized controlled trial and in-depth family surveys, the study assesses clinical outcomes and gathers family perceptions on treatment efficacy, feasibility, and emotional impacts. Results suggest that tDCS may enhance social interactions and behavioral flexibility, with many families reporting positive changes in their children’s engagement and communication. The thesis also discusses potential neurocognitive benefits, safety, and tolerability, emphasizing the vital role of family feedback in shaping treatment strategies. These findings advocate for integrating family perspectives into clinical decision-making and highlight the potential of non-invasive brain stimulation as an accessible intervention for ASD.
